Joe McGill began serving the community of Pasadena in 1991, when he attended the Basic Police Officer Academy, Class #43.  Joe worked both evening and night shift patrol as an Advanced Accident Investigator, Field Training Officer and Drug Recognition Expert.  In 1996 he was transferred to Detectives, serving in the General Assignment and Juveniles Division. 

Joe promoted to Sergeant in 1999, over time serving as a first line supervisor for Days, Evenings and Night Shift personnel. From 2004 to 2019, he served on specialized divisions like DOT, Operation Spotlight and the Crime Scene Unit. During this time, his passion for community engagement and helping to solve quality of life issues was born. 

In 2019, Joe promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and became the Night Shift Commander. From 2021 to 2025 Joe was assigned to both the Criminal Investigative and Special Investigations Divisions.

Throughout his career, Joe attended Texas A&M University and is a graduate of the Texas Police Chief’s Foundation-Developing Leaders for Texas Law Enforcement and FBI Command College at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. 

Joe was appointed to his current position as Assistant Chief of Police in August 2025.
