COURSE OBJECTIVE: Properly applying dynamic entry techniques will most likely lead to a situation where deadly force may no longer be appropriate. The unarmed striking methods that comprise the Active Countermeasures System give the tactical and patrol officer more options to choose from in an immediate threat situation. Course topics include Control theory, body mechanics, power development, tactical warm-ups, basic strikes, low, middle, and high-level simulations, verbal commands, weapon control and retention, and Simunition scenarios with entries. Redman gear will be utilized and provided for all students throughout this course.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: This 40-hour course consists of classroom instruction but predominately range instruction. This course teaches participants the principles of marksmanship, rifle terminology, and operation. Emphasis will be placed on weapons manipulation and how to fight with commonly configured patrol rifles. The course stresses rifle marksmanship from intermediate to short ranges (150 yards), weapon retention, and maintenance.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course provides the key concepts, safety techniques, and communication skills for peace officers to use when they respond to individuals in a severe mental health crisis. It covers the legal aspects of mental health commitments, liability issues, mental disorders, and mental disabilities. In addition, it deals with various developmental disabilities, including epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and hearing impairments. Other areas covered include indicators of mental illness, understanding mental illness, documenting the interpersonal relations necessary to work with the mentally ill, and their families effectively, and the mental health system intervention strategies for dealing with low and high-risk situations.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: The goal of this course is to improve the response of officers to incidents that involve persons in crisis. This person is behaving erratically and suffering from mental illness. It emphasizes public and officer safety while teaching tactical de-escalation to reduce the intensity of an encounter with a suspect. This training enables officers with additional options for voluntary compliance and to mitigate the need for a higher level of force while maintaining control of the situation.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: Many fights end on the ground whether the combatants want to be there. Many people trained in mixed martial arts (MMA) programs prepare specifically to take the fight to the floor. Fighting on the ground poses unique and dangerous challenges to police and corrections officers. This course is designed to teach students how to avoid being taken to the ground and effectively escape if they find themselves in these circumstances. It reviews tactics for open and narrow environments, examines the four most common ground positions and escapes, refines the student's physical technique, and presents instructional methods for teaching survival skills.
Physical participation is required; the participant must be in good physical condition and able to complete the following:

COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is a follow-up course to the basic patrol rifle course. Officers attending this course should have already completed a recognized basic patrol rifle school. Officers should have a rifle with integrated lighting system that is zeroed and reliable. This course will emphasize rifle deployment in low-light conditions in stand-off and search environments.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE – 87th Legislative Session (TCOLE #3187)

COURSE OBJECTIVE: In this course, we discuss the multiple bills passed by the 87th Legislature and decisions of the 5th US Circuit Court of Appeals and the US Supreme Court that impact Texas Peace Officers. Some of these changes are dynamic, including the many facets of the Constitutional Carry laws; others directly affect how peace officers perform their duties. There were administrative alterations, changes to existing statutes, new code requirements, and several new regulations that were at odds with one another.
This course is mandatory for all Pasadena Police Officers. They will be given priority registration.
The course must be completed by all Peace Officers before 8-31-2023.
POLICE DRIVING SKILLS & DRILLS

COURSE OBJECTIVE: For TCOLE certified peace officers. This is an intermediate-level course, the student should have a basic conception of emergency vehicle operation. The goal of this course is to refresh and improve learned skills in the manipulation of an emergency vehicle. Additionally legal aspects of emergency vehicle operation will be discussed. The student will also be able to discuss various aspects and techniques utilized while driving an emergency vehicle. The student will understand that when driving an emergency vehicle, they must take additional precautions and show due regard for the safety of s. The student will also practice the driving techniques they learned or perhaps have not been using for some time. At the end of this class, we want the student to be more proficient and safer when they are operating an emergency vehicle.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: The goal of this course of instruction is to inform the student of the necessity of surveillance and how surveillance is used to collect information on a target for intelligence gathering, court preparation, arrest and seizure of contraband or assets. In order to become an effective Investigator, you must be able to conduct a productive surveillance. This course is recommended for any officer who has a desire to pursue an investigative assignment in the future as well as current investigators. This class will involve preparing an operation plan, working as part of an actual surveillance team during field training scenarios, and completing an effective debriefing. Upon completion, you will be able to differentiate between astatic and mobile surveillance and identify standard surveillance terms.
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:
Officers from outside agencies must use their own unmarked vehicle.
Pasadena Officers who do not have an unmarked vehicle assigned to them, but wish to attend the training may be provided an unmarked vehicle based on availability. The course instructor will attempt to secure pool units for class use only.

COURSE OBJECTIVE: Vehicle Tactics is an intermediate shooting course focused on positional shooting in and around vehicles. Students will push the boundaries of "traditional" cover and concealment utilizing various cars and trucks in a true three-dimensional environment. Live fire drills will incorporate both handgun and patrol rifle employment while engaging threats around, from over and under vehicles, with a heavy emphasis on problem solving. Classroom portions will include video diagnostics, statistics, tactics and the science behind why officers win and lose fights around vehicles.
