The City of Pasadena is a Home Rule City and operates under a Mayor/Council form of government. The City Charter provides that the Council shall be composed of a Mayor and eight Councilmembers. The Mayor is elected by the qualified voters of the entire City. Councilmembers are elected by the qualified voters in each of eight Council Districts A through H. The Mayor serves four-year terms and Councilmembers serve two-year terms. No person shall be elected to more than two consecutive regular four-year terms as Mayor and no person shall be elected to more than four consecutive regular two-year terms as a Councilmember.
Pasadena’s General Elections for Mayor and Councilmembers are held on the first Saturday in May in each odd-numbered year, unless that date is set on another Saturday by the Secretary of State.
