Temporary Operating Procedures

Pasadena Animal Shelter & Animal Control will be adapting operations to comply with Harris County’s “Stay Home/Work Safe” orders. Community health and safety is our primary concern, so we are balancing this focus with our need to care for shelter animals.

From March 25 to April 30:
Kennel technicians will be working as usual to provide essential animal care. All cats and dogs will be moved from the Adoption Center to the Animal Shelter to streamline operations. 

We will no longer be accepting ANY cats or dogs unless the animal is critically injured, has bitten a person/animal, or presents an imminent threat to the community. In the event an animal has attacked, a bite report and investigation will be conducted.

Animal Control Officers will no longer be on patrol, but will respond to emergencies. Shelter phone lines will be open Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. After hours, contact the police department if you believe a situation involving an animal constitutes an emergency.

Online adoption and foster applications will still be processed. If you are approved to adopt or foster a SPECIFIC cat or dog, we will counsel you by phone, set up an appointment, and then bring the animal outside the shelter to meet you. You will not be allowed in the building at any time and will only be able to visit with the pet specified in your application. Adoption and foster appointments will be set between the hours of 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday through Friday. The adoption fee will be $5 for cats and $20 for dogs. Animal Control Officers will not collect confined animals of any kind. Only pick up stray cats or dogs if you are prepared to care for them at your home. You will not be permitted to trap animals. If you have a trap, please release any animal in it, and disengage the trap.

We will not be able to accept donations of cardboard, newspaper, blankets, or towels. If you want to donate, please contribute online or order an item from our wishlist on

Our volunteer and Doggie Date programs will be suspended. 

Shelter staff will contact you if an existing medical appointment needs to be rescheduled.
